The proof of concept study had two substantial findings. The first was that the furanone-coated lenses maintained their efficacy against bacteria after wear, reducing bacterial adhesion by up to 70%. The second was that the furanones actually reduced the production of toxins. Bacteria are not generally harmful until they colonise surfaces and produce toxins. The Biosignal-IER study also found a reduction in indicators associated with two serious eye conditions, CLPU (Contact Lens induced Peripheral Ulcer) and MK (Microbial Keratitis). "Biosignal's partner in this field, the Institute for Eye Research, and Biosignal are currently in discussions with contact lens manufacturers who seek technologies that enable completely problem-free extended wear of contact lenses. Such antibacterial technologies are currently not commercially available," said Mr Oredsson. "More than 80 million people wear contact lenses worldwide, an industry generating in excess of US$6 billion annually." "A contact lens that prevents bacteria colonising its surface will have a huge effect on the safety of lenses and a significant impact on contact lens sales worldwide," said Prof Mark Willcox, Chief Scientific Officer at the Institute for Eye Research.

Keep an eye on this .....Could very well be a chance of some big deals

There is no product that services the contact lense industry so BOS have a monopoly here.

the market may well have overlooked this

also worth having a look at other industries that could use BOS 's Applications
