Tomato....Tomato. I am going with @Houndie on this, i dont see it as asking about the motivation of the Company but the subscriber. When it comes to the Free to Air side of things i would argue subscribers are happier to pay for Ad Free....but i temper that by adding that the Premium Content is the key.
An example is that I subscribed to Netflix to watch a few things of interest then cancelled the subscription once i was done, did the same with Foxtel Now. The up side is that then they chase you to sign up again and offer more free time.
