One example I hear about of the undue influence of tech  companies on society is how parents are being pressured to buy kids these ludicrously expensive iphones, among other things.
These companies have by the nature of their industry found themselves in a position to create and extend their market power beyond anything ever seen before. It is unhealthy for a free market and a free society.
