While it is uncertain as to what will happen, anything that Trump says is taken very lightly until any action occurs. A company like Walmat imports around 85% of its goods from China. This is a company that will worry about any import tax. The impact (and job losses) to Walmart would be staggering. I don't see a 35% tariff on consumer goods anytime soon. But maybe a luxury tax like Australia has could be more realistic.
