Yes, what a fantastic announcement! Compounds able to completely inhibit micro-organism growth on PVC plastic surface.
From what I understand of previous bonding methods for the contact lenses, the compound was covalently (ie, permanently) bonded to the surface. But by this method, compounds have been "formulated into" the plastic. I wonder how this is done and how long it lasts for etc..
As an aside - "In terms of revenue generated, it (PVC) is one of the most valuable products of the chemical industry" (wikipedia re: PVC) The mind boggles at the possibilities.
