I think Canadians have always known Trudeau is a tougher individual than his public persona indicates. His dad was pretty hard nosed too when he needed to be. It's the international media that has sold the ridiculous "rainbows and unicorns" idealistic view of him.
Trudeau is accused of a practice that is very common in the Australian Liberal Party or Labor Party. The boss or faction leader says to do what he wants or you lose your portfolio, preselection, or position on the Senate ticket. It's called politics. Gets dirty, sometimes.
