LNG import is a white elephant. Current spot prices to Asia are USD$10.40 and long term contracts $8.20 to Japan per MMBtu. Add in transportation costs from Japan to Australia of 10% and 10% for regassification and you are looking at a price (~$10) double what WA currently pays. The Victorian government should be on their hands and knees asking STO to develop Narrabri as the cost of piped gas would be $5-$6 MMBtu. If twiggy gets his way electrical costs will surge 40-50%. More Hydro will take at least 5 years to bring online by which time Victorian industry will be dead. Not to worry they’ll build it realise it is too expensive and come running back to STO.
