I agree with aspects of your post. I am not a property lawyer but I belive those that hold the exploration rights (gas, petrolium, minerals) have a right of access to the land. The farmers can seek compensation which is fair. The CSG explorers will be using a very minimal of the land mass for wells, access roads, pipelines etc. The vast vast majority of the land will still be easily accessible to the farmer and will not be impacted in any way by the CSG extraction and transport process. Given the majority of the land in question is grazing land (some cropping) the percentage of land impacted - i.e. that for which rent should be paid is minimal.
Dont get me wrong, appropriate fees should be paid but there are many legalities (property and mineral access laws) and some commone sense understanding about how the drilling/extraction will impact that land that must be appreciated.
