Artists impression only….If you look closely you will notice the right foot doesn't display a similar deformity although i don't believe it to be a deformity. Also if you look closely again at the left foots big toe you will notice the toe extends further than the darkened area at what has been perceived to be the end of the toe.It has been done for the pleasure of the artist and the fashion trend of the day. These are not displayed in later eras. In conclusion based on the shape of the hands, the artist struggled with painting hands and feet as many also still do today.
I agree that at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter because we will agree or disagree based on trends, era and personalities. The important part is to accept that people have differing opinions even when they're wrong.
