    EXPLORATION
Exploration activities during the quarter focused on drill testing of new exploration targets and existing resources within the Woodie Woodie Mine Corridor. Generative work also continued, with interpretation of the 2006 HOISTEM survey and compilation of geological mapping over the Tarra Tarra-Depot Creek-Skull Springs area. Compilation of geological mapping over the Mt Sydney area has also progressed.
A total of 134 RC holes were drilled during the quarter for a drilling advance of 9,766 metres. Unless otherwise stated all manganese drilling is RC and in the vertical orientation.
Rhodes Pit – High Grade Extensions
Further drilling at the historic Rhodes Pit has intersected substantial high-grade extensions to mineralisation, with a number of excellent drill results indicating that mineralisation extends beneath and outside the existing limits of the old pit. Significant intersections include 33m @ 51.2% Mn from 42m to 75m in RDRC129; 23m @ 52.1% Mn from 19m to 42m in RDRC136; 40m @ 50.8% Mn from 38m to 78m in RDRC149 and; 54m @ 50.8% Mn from 20m to 74m in RDRC152 (Table 1).
The Rhodes Pit was one of the original Woodie Woodie pits mined in the 1950’s to a depth of around 40m, where mining was halted due to groundwater ingress. The mineralisation discovered in recent drilling represents extensions of the historic ore body, as well as separate distinct ore pods. The ore body is open to the north and west, and drilling is ongoing to confirm the extent of the mineralisation (Figure 1).
Ranchu and Minnow – Encouraging Intercepts
Elsewhere, encouraging results have been returned from exploration drilling at the Ranchu prospect, including 17m @ 49.9% Mn from 10m in SC1RC71 (Table 2), adjacent to the Sardine pit and Minnow prospect. The recent drilling was designed to follow up encouraging results received from earlier testing of surface manganese staining and a Gradient Array Induced Polarization (GAIP) anomaly.
Encouraging results were also returned from the Minnow prospect, including 33m @ 43.1% Mn from 30m to 63m in SC1RC77 (Table 3). This hole was drilled adjacent to a 4m @ 42.0% Mn intercept in a single hole (SC1RC44) drilled in 2003. The mineralisation at both prospects remains open.
A program of Gradient Array and Dipole-Dipole Induced Polarisation surveys has commenced over various areas of the Woodie Woodie Mine Corridor area. Targets generated from these programs will be prioritised with existing exploration drill targets for testing during the year.
