Or maybe an accumulator is also shorting quite a few APA aiming to trigger margin calls and also panic other holders into selling, thereby bringing volume into the selling side for that accumulator to snaffle?
I guess it wouldn't require very much shorting of APA to push the sp down because at any given time the first five bid levels are usually short of depth BUT, having said that, right now there is quite reasonable buy side depth at 800c -804c and fewer sellers/shorters.
Daily Gross Short Sales reported for 16-Jan-2018, ASX Limited (ASX) & Chi-X Australia (CHI-X),
is 493,270 shares whereas the volume for the 16th was 1,479,629 on the ASX and I guess substantially less than that on CHI-X.
