Hi mowibble, I have very little experience here but a thought occurred to me re prevention. Could you possibly wear panty hose under your long pants before you go out? Because they are one piece it would seem to me that it may stop the the little buggers from getting at your legs? It's probably hot and uncomfortable but I reckon it would save you lots of worry.
