that just reminded me, in the last year we've found one dead chook, one dead bush turkey and one dead fox all out on the same side of the yard. all this time i thought it was either brown snakes or maybe even goannas, but now that i think about it, they all had exactly the same distressed frozen look about them, like they had been paralyzed. maybe it was ticks?
reading your link there, they need a couple of feeds of blood to get to the adult stage, and all the ones we keep finding are adults, so that means they mustve fed on something!
it's starting to make sense why there are so many out there now.
