Whilst not quite as emotional about it as SG, I believe it was a conspiracy that Hackett and Thorpe put together the night before.
Only kidding...but we always need a conspiracy theory!
He should be disqualified from that particular race no doubt as that is the rule that has been put in place to stop cheating and jumping early. Apparaently the rule was put in though for the benefit of television timetables not punishment for cheating according to Shane Gould.
To ban him from the 400 in the Olympics because the rule seems unjust but of course if it was a lesser known athlete we wouldn't be worried about the rules would we?
The rule may suck but you can't change it retrospectively.
Thorpe will have to try harder for the 1500.
