    I am very sorry that Thorp is not there but thems the rules otherwise, why bother having Olympic qualifying at all? Everyone, other than you apparently, knows that ALL competitors must fairly qualify for Olympic selection and it is not just about who can swim the fastest. What if Thorp fell into the pool like that at the Olympics? There would be outcry from other swimmers saying, "I never faulted during the selection trails, why was I not given the chance to represent Australia in preference to a guy who showed that he cannot keep his balance (or who hears phamton noises)?".
