Ignoring my personal anger at this change as an early adopter who checked the Flexiroam page regularly and got a number of referrals (given the amount of saved data i will likely lose). With my current level of overseas trips I suspect I'm better losing all my data when my current $10 annual subscription expires and just buying 30day data packs when I need them.
Likely outcomes of this change in my view:
Heavy users (frequent business, airline crew) - unchanged, indeed get better value from the new higher plans.
Occasional users - as above will likely subscribe for 10/30 day packs as they need it. Will increase revenue over a year but make 'active' SIM count variable
Early adopters - suspect a number will lose their data balances and not bother anymore.
So net outcome is customer numbers down but avg revenue up. Losing existing customers isn't good however given the substantial customer acquisition cost and the service (establishing account and mailing SIM) is essentially a sunk cost.
I wonder whether this change will get reversed like GlobalGig when they switched from 1mth to 3mth contracts.
