Thick iron ore intersected at Western Creek: Giralia
Thursday, 28 February 2008
DIVERSE explorer Giralia Resources has intersected thick high-grade direct shipping iron ore at its wholly-owned Western Creek project near Newman in Western Australia’s Pilbara.
Adjacent to BHP Billiton’s Silver Knight iron ore deposit – host to the Marra Mamba formation outcrop – Western Creek comprises about 3 square kilometres of tenure including Marra Mamba mineralisation.
Better results from an initial reverse circulation drilling program included 50m at 60.4% iron ore from surface, 42m at 60.2% iron ore from surface and 42m at 59.1% iron ore from surface, including 34m at 61.1% iron ore from 8m.
Perth-based Giralia has received 26 assays from its 35-hole drilling program at Western Creek aimed at testing extensions to Marra Mamba.
Giralia said the initial assays were encouraging and have identified a contiguous block of shallow DSO mineralisation up to 50m thick open to the west, south and east.
In mid December last year, Giralia reported an inferred maiden resource of 7.2 million tonnes at 57.2% iron for its wholly-owned Beebyn-Weld Range iron project, also in WA.
