People seem to have either forgotten or just don't know history.

Britain has been slowly dying since about the turn of the last century - ie. the Empire began to die or contract about 100 years ago give or take a couple of decades.

It had a bit of a go on with Thatcher - but, ONLY after she shafted Argentina who made the dumbest move of trying on the Falkland Islands when there was a conservative PM ------ you can't get much dumber than that one.

That was the only thing that saved Thatcher and gave her a glow with lasted a while - then, she spluttered out.

Basically - it's been a constant downhill for a century --------- now, a while back they became part of Europe.

Good idea? - depends on your philosophy. Now, when there's been some issues - as there always had to be - they have a large amount of people that pine for the old days - and, you can't blame them.

BUT - will going it alone actually be better? -- It looks rosy when you consider the issues in Europe -- 'possibly'

But, people should think through just what the issues are -

the combining of Western Europe has had some really big nice things -- travel, single currency (not Britain) etc. -

but, some of the things have brought problems - currency is a big one - because there are such cultural differences between something like Germany and say Norway, Sweden etc. - and Italy and Spain - they are like chalk and cheese.

Personally, I don't think that's a reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater - someone will find a way to make it work better - because the diversity of Europe is exactly what makes the place wonderful.

The real issue that's tipped everything over the edge is not borders themselves - but, the types of people who are entering the 'group' and getting loose there.

You can see the difference in attitudes in Britain between say Polish immigrants and the latest African immigrants -

Many English say - 'Poles are lovely people, but, there's just too many of them' --- well, that's manageable - and, not only that - but, if you harness it right - it's very profitable - watch how Germany has worked over the years.

In stark contrast are the waves of immigrants coming from Africa. It should be noted that they are from a different continent - that's one point.
It should be also noted that the ONLY reason why they are pouring across the Med is because the great friend 'America' cleared the immigration highway by removing Gaddafi - which just opened up the whole pathway.

Without that -- my bet is that we would not have this push for Britain to exit - nor would we have the rumblings for other European exits - what we would have are just problems with European representatives sitting around the table arm wrestling about how to get along with each other.

It's a tragedy that America who isn't anywhere near this area has created this problem - but, Europe is stuck with it.

I have no idea what the solutions are - but, if they pulled together - as one (Britain being in the one) - a good start would be for Europe to take over Libya - tell the USA to piss off and stay on their side of the ditch and patch up the highway on the African side.

How they then get on with making a single currency work is another huge problem - and, many have said that the Euro is the key to making it work - without a single currency - it doesn't work presently -- ??? they might want to sit down and have a lot of cups of tea and a think about that one.

For Britain - my guess is that going alone will just keep it on the path to contraction - like it's been for 100 years - they really need to do something different.
