From memory there are two issues with not filling ponds fully. 1. Water will evaporate too quickly/get too hot and potentially precipitate lithium.2. If it rains it dilutes the concentration more as the volume is lower e.g. 100mm rain in 1m deep pond =10% dilution if pond was 500mm this would be 20%.
