Funky, the quest for a better way is still proving elusive. Enirgi (now Rinconltd) have spent years looking for that better way. Their demonstration plant is operating and seems to be based on membrane technology. They appeared to be trying to flog the project off a while back but it seems that it hasn't sold... it was first touted as a 50ktpa & 750m USD project if I recall correctly, and according to their... latest presentation ... it is now 28ktpa for 600 mUSD. Not cheap... Meanwhile, in the hard rock world, Nemaska is having fun getting their membrane process built - a massive cost over run and now looking for a further 375m CAD on top of the original 1.1b CAD to complete the job. Membranes don't feel like the answer - there is a lot to be said for relatively simple ponds.
