I can relate to that. Recently I was doing a commercial development. I needed a water and a sewerage connection, They were on different street frontages. the council insisted on connecting to water but I could get the sewerage connected by a local plumber. Plans showed both services needed excavation of 1.6m to connect. The plumber started at 7.30 with a contractor who had a mini excavator. They cut out the turf, put it aside and excavated to locate the sewer pipe. The plumber made his connection. the hole was filled and the grass relaid. They were gone by midday.

Out the other side a couple of workers arrived at 8 AM. Vehicle No1.They waited for the supervisor who looked at the site and left. Vehicle No2. The other two waited. Then along came an engineer, Vehicle no 3 followed by a large truck vehicle no 4. They waited the arrival of vehicles 5 and 6 before installing a contractor for traffic management while the truck fitted with a suction arrangement "sucked out" to reveal the water main. Vehicle No 7 Then came vehicle No 8, the safety officer who fitted the man going down the 1.6m deep hole with a safety harness attached to a rope which was installed over a pulley on a large tripod spanning the hole. They tapped the service then they all stood around waiting for the arrival of a large truck load of fill to replace the soil taken away earlier. Vehicle No 9. By then it was knock off time so a load of barrier equipment plus warning signs were erected around the site Vehicle no 10.

Next day two staff returned, waited around for the arrival of a pallet load of turf. Vehicle No1 again for the staff then vehicle No 11 arrived with the turf which was laid and the staff left. Vehicle No 10 returned and removed the barriers and warning signs. The next day a water truck came along vehicle No12 and watered the new turf even though I had watered it myself after they had laid it.

So you see the picture above is not complete. Where are all their vehicles, pedestrian barriers, safety harness on the man in the hole etc.

This is a fair dinkum story, I have invoices to prove it.
