House built in under three hours

The house was dismantled soon after completion
A group of builders has put up a house in under three hours to demonstrate the benefits of new construction methods.
The house was built outside York's National Railway Museum to coincide with a Housing Corporation conference there on Wednesday.

It was made completely out of wood from a design used by housing associations that is said to cost under £18,000.

Museum visitors were able to walk around the finished two-storey house before it was dismantled.

The Housing Corporation is a government agency that funds new affordable housing and regulates housing associations in England.

Board member Donald Hoodless said: "This fantastic approach to housing delivery is providing much needed low cost, high quality housing quickly.

"At a time when demand is very high, this has to be the way forward."

A suspended timber frame floor was laid on Tuesday ready for the build to begin on Wednesday morning.

A series of large exterior panels were craned into position before the floor, roof, windows, dividing walls and a stairway were fitted.

Brian Young, who was in charge of the construction, said the estimated cost of building one of the houses was between £16,000 to £18,000.

He said the homes were fully insulated and built using the strongest construction methods
