Myself and other shareholders share your frustration. Some shareholders seem content to sit quietly and wait for an indefinite period of time progress or updates, or they just get fed up and sell never to be heard from again.
For all of our management’s achievements and the things that they do right they have never been particularly great communicators. Despite their obvious shortcomings in some aspects they seem not to have made the necessary changes to correct these.
The response that myself and others have received from management is that finance negotiations are delicate and ongoing and that they don’t want to preempt the outcome and potentially jeopardise those negotiations. I can appreciate that certain aspects of the negotiations need to remain confidential and it could be counterproductive to prematurely report on the expected outcomes of those negotiations, there still needs to be a certain level of information that filters through to shareholders so that they are not completely kept in the dark.
I was pleased to see in today’s AGM announcement that our BoD are not seeking Director Plan Shares this year. I commend our Board for not coming to shareholders with their hands out and for being willing to endure this painstaking wait (in Tanzania) with us.
I will be attending the AGM this year and I will raise the issue of communication and regular detailed updates. We may not get answers to every question that we have but I at least hope that we will see marked improvement in the level of communication and updates.
