Federal Nationals MP George Christensen maintains there is a "smear campaign" underway over his travel, as detailed records have revealed he spent 294 days in the Philippines during a four-year period.

The government backbencher also spent more days in Manila than based in Canberra for parliament in 2016 and 2017, The Herald Sun has reported on Wednesday

He spent 72 days in the Philippines in both years, compared to 51 days in Canberra in 2016 and 64 days in the capital the following year.

In total, he made 28 trips to the country between April 2014 and June 2018, all but one of which were self-funded, the paper says.

Mr Christensen admitted in December that he was the person referred to in reports about a government MP making frequent trips to Southeast Asia, causing the Australian Federal Police to become concerned he could be subject to blackmail.

But he said he was the victim of a "disgusting smear campaign", peddled by both a Labor MP and former senior government member.
