The fight has now started. Whats are the odds that the new Governor will win?
You don't want to go to an election with promises to close down ALL mining and win that election and then go back on your promises to the people.

"The seriousness of the NTT provincial government in carrying out a moratorium on mining permits can be seen from the efforts of whether the Governor is brave enough to stop efforts to plan a smelter development. Because based on Law No. 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining, new mines can operate if there is a smelter. While there is a legacy from the previous period about the construction of a smelter in the Bolok Industrial Estate (KIB), Bolok Village by PT Gulf Mangan Group of manganese companies from Perth, Western Australia which was inaugurated on July 20 2018 by the Acting Governor of NTT Province Robert Simbolon and accompanied by Former NTT Governor Frans Lebu Raya on;"

"NTT Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat and NTT Deputy Governor Josef Nae Soi, whose mining termination policy expressly prepared to deal with mining entrepreneurs who must be disrupted and hated by related mining entrepreneurs, is one of the government's policies that have an environmental sustainability perspective in NTT. 309 mining permits spread across 17 districts in NTT with the following details: Belu 84 permits, TTU 70 permits, Kupang Regency 34 permits, Ende 20 permits, Manggarai 18 permits, TTS 16 permits, Rote Ndao 15 permits, Nagekeo 14 permits, Alor 12 permits, East Manggarai 7 permits, Ngada 5 permits, NTT Province 5 permits, Sabu Raijua 2 permits, SBD 2 permits, Central Sumba 2 permits, West Manggarai 1 permit, West Sumba 1 permit, East Sumba 1 permit, resulting in various adverse impacts against environmental problems, among others in the form of deforestation in exploration and exploitation activities, seizing land, polluting the water and coastal areas due to waste / tailings disposal in the river or the sea, residents are criminalized for defending their land and water even causing casualties. Other adverse impacts, mining businesses can also trigger social conflicts between mining entrepreneurs and communities around the mining area or between communities around the mine."
