Thats one way of looking at it.

There are of course other ways.

At one extreme most of us would agree that a dictator is a risky form of group governance ... ok if he/she is benevolent, visionary, wise and fair but a disaster if not.

At another extreme, if 25,000,000 people in Australia all had a say and had to have a say in group governance the country would be crippled, never able to reach a decision on any policy whatsoever.

Imo, our recent and present governance is closer to the latter than the former.

Its so easy to distort the romanticism of democracy when it comes to minorities having a say. The presence of minor parties, micro parties and independents when needed for Liberal or Labor to form governments results in some very undemocratic policy and funding outcomes in return for voting support. Limited funding is taken from a majority and given disproportionately to a minority. Windsor and Oakshot extorted hundreds of millions of dollars (if not a billion) doing just that with the previous labor government and PuPs and Greens do it on a grander scale with the current government.

That is not democracy in my book.

Back to east coast gas (and coal), development decisions of national and majority significance are being thwarted by minorities because major parties are chasing preference votes ... politics in that form is challenging perception of what might be the "oldest profession" imo ... far from "keeping the bastards honest", minors, micros and independents are leveraging their position and basically extorting the nation.

Australia could well take a silver fern leaf from the Kiwis who have the commonsense to vote in a majority party to continue to a democratic way to a balanced and prosperous future. If their policies fail, they will lose to a new majority party with dffering policies who will then have a go. That is democracy.

Australia's future energy security is at risk whilst ever major parties corrupt democracy by appeasing minors, micros and independents ... we have already lost a minimum decade of progress due to policy paralysis of the past 6-7 years imo.

Have you had a careful read yet of that Greenpeace strategy and funding document I gave a link to in my previous post? What is the end play if this continues?
