Interesting perspectives guys.
Within Australia, we have radical greens with a stated and thus far enacted agenda to disrupt east coast gas and coal production.
Their postion is that wind and sunshine can replace fossil fuelled powergen and they dont think deeper than that imo.
Have a read of Greenpeace's 2012 funding strategy to disrupt east coast CSG and coal here ...

With the help of US Rockefeller Foundation, Australian internet millionaires, probably Dick Smith and assorted others Greenpeace has pretty much done what they stated they would do in that document.
And still, gormless politicians, particularly in NSW, pander to greens to secure their preferences support come election time.
Australia has zigged, whilst America zagged in relation to unconventional gas and oil over the past 5-7 years ... the US is set to be self sufficient in oil and gas by something like 2020, and a net exporter beyond that ... Australia has completely lost first mover advantage to Asian gas export markets due to seditionists amongst us and protest funds sourced largely from overseas.
Its a pretty sick state of affairs for mine.
Radical greens and mainstream political parties courting their favour do not seem to care or even be aware that planes, heavy haulage, construction plant, farm machinery, international seabourne freight, nitrogen based fertilisers, lubricants, plastics, some pharmaceuticals, intense farming methods and in fact global food production and a whole lot more just do not happen without coal, oil and gas.
