Erdogan's army may perform very poorly but they none-the-less have the huge advantage of a common border.

I'm not sure of what Turkey will do next (if anything). I'm not sure if Merkel's green light referred to Turkey (aggravating rebel attacks on HTS) 0nly.

Then we must remind ourselves of Turkey's dire economic position and that Putin's priority is Turkey (not Idlib). Putin knows that Turkey won't attach Russian positions and Erdogan knows that Russia won't attack Turkish positions for now.
