Actually, it probably demonstrates how closed minded many hc people are. As soon as someone posts one thing e.g. in favor of renewables, they are branded a leftie, latte sipping, inner city tree hugger.
Mostly, those people are incorrect. Says way more about them than anything else.
I am on record on hc as saying that previously I thought that building a replacement for Hazelwood, even if it had a relatively short life, might have been a sensible thing to do. That said, I was also suprised that we were able to manage without it, albeit not perfectly.
Unfortunately, in this crucial period, our politicians are still letting us down. We should have had a power transition policy, a NEG or whatever years ago and then we would have had industry investing well before this.
As Rob has correctly observed, we could experience difficulty going forward. We have plenty of renewable projects ready to go and now it appears we have plenty of storage projects on the drawing board as well. But, why politicians pee around for their own selfish reasons, the power industry cannot move forward. This excessive renewable output causing instability was predicted a long time ago. If there had been a policy it could have been managed and been seamless.
Instead the end result could be more disruption . All caused by lack of political will.
You have seen the political dancing that has been going around coal with the Libs and the Nats lately. Clearly those politicians are trying to save their own backsides without any concern for the community, the environment or anything else. This has shone a light on how greedy and self centered some of these politicians are.
I'm a centrist politically and financially conservative. I'm for reduced emissions at a sensible and smooth pace but that also means getting on with the job so that the pace can be determined as opposed to the adhoc system we have now.
The one shining light with a Labor federal government will be that the conservative roadblocks will be kicked to the kerb and we will have a power policy. Hopefully Labor adapts most of the work the Turnbull government did therefore it will be sensible and not radical.
Time will tell.
