I suppose my doubtful tune re Scientists came from being at an Earthwatch dinner afew years back, where the guest speaker was involved in risk and assessment etc etc to do with the environment.
He told us the story of a number of scientists weho were each given detailed info on certain animals and birds with the idea of assessing each one and reporting back after doing their own research and giving their own opinion as to how endangered each species were at this present time.
There was a scale from extreme high risk of extinction, down to not a worry all,all is well with the Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker(that was my example)
The range of final opinions he said were astonishing, and he mentioned the Orange Bellied Parrot which from all accounts sounds pretty stressed out about it's future.
Around half agreed it was definitely in danger of falling off the perch, but a high percentage of the other half said there wasn't really a problem.
In the end they asked them many questions as to how they all came about their decisions and numerous from both sides of the argument said emotions had a lot to do with their answers.
How bizarre.......wonder if that's common. Cheers to both of you for giving a stuff.
