On a totally different topic I am in Shanghai this week visiting oldest daughter who is here on a 6 month secondment .... too good an opportunity to miss. Of course trying to apply my GJVOODOOECONOMICS101 to the economic marvel that IS China.
Haven't cracked it yet BUT one simple thought is that there is something about having 1.5Bill people .... for just one eg. I have been shocked with how FEW foreign tourists are here (eg. I was only Ozzie on plane over and seen very few here) but there are 10's of 1000's of Chinese tourists (I assume they are tourists they are wodering around and taking photos and the like) & then it hit me ... if only 0.1% of the population have the "new wealth" thats still 1,500,000 people ... enough for a serious internal tourist trade.
Second thing to share is that Shanghai is WAY WAY more interesting and modern and just cooler and worth visiting than I expected.
