So we know Cimic can help out with the cost pressures by inviting the government to take out a loan from it’s funding arm.
And we know it’s in trouble with Hong Kong for “shoddy” rail work although it’s apparently aiming to get round this with the best lawyers and inviting key politicians out to dinner : https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong...g-kong-construction-scandal-trying-repair-its
And we know Laing O’Rourke hasn’t been very popular in regards it’s Stage Two NorthLink project with BGC Contracting forcing a local company into administration (post on this here:36351761) so maybe it is a good thing it pulled out.
And we know the short list was supposed to be announced in December but was delayed a few months (until March/April?)
But we don’t know if NRW is one of the “multiple proponents” that tendered for this project .....
But here’s a somewhat belated update from February 1 in case anyone is interested.
Cheers

“Building giants John Holland and Laing O’Rourke pull out of $1.1 billion Metronet contest”

“John Holland and Laing O’Rourke will not bid for the first stage of the Metronet rail expansion, reducing competition to build the McGowan Government’s showpiece.
WestBusiness understands the companies discussed submitting a joint bid for the work and decided not to proceed.
The move has made significant rail experience unavailable to the project, which is estimated to cost $1.1 billion. Chinese-owned John Holland was in the joint venture that built the successful Perth to Mandurah rail line a decade ago and is now extending Sydney’s rail network.
Laing O’Rourke has built rail projects across Australia and in Britain and Hong Kong.
It is understood at least two consortia are bidding for the contract.
Metroconnex, a joint venture between Clough, Georgiou and Spain’s Acciona, is pursuing the work. CPB Contractors, part of the CIMIC Group, has teamed up with ASX-listed Downer EDI.
The loss of one bidder comes amid a buoyant construction market that may put pressure on the cost of Metronet.
ANZ senior economist Daniel Gradwell said in September that Australia had $120 billion of construction in the pipeline.
“The strong competition for labour, resources and equipment carries the risk of rising cost pressures,” he said.
In September the State Government requested proposals to build two extensions to Perth’s rail network.
The Joondalup rail line will stretch 14.5km north to Yanchep with three additional stations.
A 17.5km rail line with two new stations will link Thornlie and Cockburn stations in the southern suburbs.
Applications closed in October, and the Government planned to announce the short list by last month and award the contract mid-year.
The December deadline was missed.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said last month that multiple proponents had applied and more details would be made available when they were short-listed “within the next few months”.
She said by the end of this year the final contract would be awarded and work would start.”
