Eliwana rail route under review
FORTESCUE Metals Group’s plan to link its existing railway network at the Solomon mine to its proposed Eliwana mine via the Eliwana rail spur has been released for viewing in a four-week public review period.
“As part of the railway project FMG will build a 120km rail spur, road maintenance track, borrow pits, bridges, surface water management infrastructure, borefields, camps, power and communications corridor and other associated rail infrastructure.

This work will disturb 3690 hectares of native vegetation, within a 38,089ha envelope.
The railway will use trains configured with two head-end locomotives, 250 ore cars and two banking locomotives that stretch for about 2900m.
This will allow average throughput of 30 million tonnes per annum and a maximum throughput of 50Mtpa, with five trains - 2.5 loaded trains - to move every 24 hours.
The proposed Eliwana mine is 90km west-northwest of Tom Price in Western Australia's Pilbara.
