Yes, it's the king's sister. Her and the king both seem to have some relation to exiled PM Thaksin, and the political party she's candidate for is affiliated with Thaksin. Her being photographed with exiled PM Yingluck and exiled PM Thaksin at the Russian world cup, and the king receiving money from Thaksin when he was crown prince and his dad would not give him as much money as he wanted.
So it may be not her against the junta and the king, but her and the king and Thaksin against the junta.
Some say that it's a move back towards absolute monarchy, with the king having further control over the government (through his sister), but at least it looks to be a move away from endless military coups.
Previously, royalists accused Thaksin of wanting to overthrow the monarchy. Now they won't know what to think. Who do you vote for when you are an anti-Thaksin royalist, but one party option is a Thaksin-affiliated party with a princess running as candidate?
