Like many Australians, I didn’t think it was possible for Trump to get elected.
I worked for an American company for many years and have numerous American friends. All bar a few outliers are as puzzled as I am about the Orange Moron being elected to high office.
I don’t relate this story as one of the (necessary) endless anti Trump memes, but as a an indication of cognitive dissonance. ie the disorder where something you held to be impossible is incontrovertibly proved to you to be true.
The same applies to the growth of EV transportation. If you live somewhere that it is perceived to be impractical, you will be a sceptic.
Where and when it is proved to be practical, that perception is likely to change very quickly.
Self driving vehicles are on our doorstep. It is not a massive leap of imagination to envisage the freight that clogs our roads on a daily basis being transported between the hours of midnight and 5am by autonomous, zero emission vehicles.
Most journeys taken by the bulk of urban residents are under 20 kilometres. Why have a dirty, expensive, hard to maintain vehicle when there is an alternative.
Not so long ago smoking was “cool”. Right now EV’s are mostly seen as cool, but impractical. That perception can change, and change quickly.
Maybe I am a sceptic and a pessimist, but it is entirely possible that big Oil is spending some money to create some negative narrative about this current threat to their future.
Think about it. Where are the “over supply” and “price vulnerability” memes coming from? The
Investment banks will sell their “ opinion” to anybody that they can get an income stream from.
In terms of Orocobre. I have been frustrated by the ramp up problems like everybody else. But, think about it. EV’s are not going away. Production ramp up has been much slower and more problematic than forecast. ORE is a first mover, with proprietary knowledge in how to treat the massive Brine resource at its disposal.
Fully funded for expansion into an environment where pricing is likely to be firm, even if it does fade a little.
Bottom of the cost curve, long term resource, expertise and stage two on the way.
As an ex Investment banker, if you like the risk profile, I have seldom seen opportunities as good as this.
