Attached is one the most recent speeches containing commentary on the matter. Hansard records the speech by the Hon Andrew Leigh in the House of Representatives on the 28th February 2018, following the introduction of the second Bill on the 8th February 2018,regarding the Federal Treasurers Ban ( as defined) on MIT's holding Residential Property other than having an affordable housing component.

The relevant paragraph in The Hon. Andrew Leigh's speech contains the following the following statement @ page 2319 para 4:

"But that was before 14 September last year, when the Treasurer announced he was banning managed investment trusts from investing in housing, apart from narrowly defined 'affordable housing'. The announcement took immediate effect."
