Here is an example:
Just because Time Warner owns all the other companies, doesn't mean to say it takes all 100% of the revenue from its subsidiaries. Those subsidiaries are an entity in themselves, with their own business dealings, expenses, board members etc... that all need to be paid before profits/part profits are filtered back to the parent company.
Now we all agree the TAS/Noble/EDE structure is not as complicated as shown above, but the tangle web is still there.
