I've spent some time calculating percentage gains. Your 400% means you bought at the right time and haven't averaged up. I worked out that I have made 1000% profit through trading relative values AND paid, or allowed for, tax. I would not be in much of a winning position at all if I had not traded as my original purchases were made at similar prices to those today.
"Time in the market" and "timing the market" gives varying results. Some average up, some average down. I usually try and trade my way out of trouble. All my current holdings are freebies with tax paid to date.
