Prairie Mining, an Australian company, sued Poland in international arbitration due to obstructing the construction of two mines: Jan Karski in the Lublin region and Dębieńsko in Silesia. Already in April 2018, Australians threatened arbitration when they lost their exclusive right to apply for a mining license for the Jan Karski mine.
Interestingly, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa wanted to buy mining projects from Prairie Mining. However, no decisions have been taken on this issue, although, as Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reports, the documents regarding the case were received by both the prime minister and the minister of energy. Due to the lack of taking up these actions, JSW was not entitled to sign an agreement with Australians.
According to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, the Australian company Prairie Mining sued Poland, and thus will demand compensation in the amount of 8 to 10 billion PLN.
