actually we have all missed something else...the letter was very precisely termed a PROPOSAL, not an offer, presumably this has a lower threshold of legalese involved and because they want to remian on good terms.
They may take this a step further to issue a takeover OFFER (higher price?) with the full palava of bidders and target statements
