sure, the GFC was/is real and especially so in countries reliant on Financials and Property (UK, US, parts of Europe etc) but worldwide, the major casualty was confidence! And confidence is returning - especially in countries on the periphery of this fiasco (Asia, and Australia too - due to our strong Asian connections). Confidence costs nothing, rather like Keynes's "animal spirits" - it's just below the surface all the time, waiting to breakout. And it's breaking out right now - for better or worse.

As for the massive government debt - that'll be papered over and largely forgotten about. Much of the world does enjoy democracy and the weak governments that they spawn, governments that never fix anything, and for whom papering over any inconvenient truths is an art form.

Message is - pop a prozac, hang on and enjoy the ride.
