When I got drift of the govt 'get involved in pricing' I just sold all my AGL at a loss. But I really want to be in the energy space. That seems a good defensive play. I did buy some ZEN (private electricity provider), but the point of my post is to ask the following:
I read yesterday that in the USA it is cheaper to build and run solar and wind than RUN already built and running COAL plants. This tells me any electricity producer that relies much on coal will be overrun by NON COAL startups. If what I read is factual (they purport it to be factual) it leads to a new thinking of me re AGL
Now I read Telstra and ANZ BANK recently pre bought all the 'electricity' from a new green (wind, I think) project in Victoria at an 'OMG, that is so cheap price'.
One thing I liked about AGL when I invested was their leaning to going NON COAL. Even closing that plant in NSW, instead of selling. To be honest, they should have sold (or sell) as the govt wanted them to. I guess the entire problem is a timing issue. How long does it take to BUILD the wind/solar. But it seems to me, I would like to be invested in a future technology, not squeezing the last Megawatt out of coal.
The other thing is the technology to make green energy cheaper (more efficient) improves each year. So the disadvantage the coal is on now, gets worse year by year. Surely some thinker in the govt (ah ha ha hah... I made a joke) could have forseen even a couple years ago that COAL is not the future.
Now I will go look into the energy space a little. PEA had my interest, but what are they doing in Africa???? GNX looks like a lot of fun. But I dont think profitable, but it sure looks the future.
I envisage in 10-15 years Aussie will be 90% GREEN. Just because it is the cheapest way to go! Where oh where can I invest. C'mon AGL, sell that coal plant in NSW. Sell them all! Go 90% green.
