A lot of this is algo trading. We cant do it as our brokerage is more than the trade - but for companies who can use it, they pay on the totally daily share sales.
Often they buy and sell to themselves - to drag a share price down or up.
It sounds ridiculous and that it is share price manipulation... certainly not a level playing field - but they allow it.
