Commander of the Australian Fleet, Rear Admiral Stuart Mayer CSC, with Austal chief executive David Singleton (centre) and Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, Rear-Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis bin Abdullah Al Raisi.

SHIPBUILDING giant Austal has welcomed the Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) to its base in Henderson.

Rear-Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis bin Abdullah Al Raisi visited the Cockburn shipyard to officially name two 72m high-speed support vessels designed and built by Austal for the RNO.

The first vessel, RNOV Al Mubshir, is on schedule for delivery in the first half of 2016, while the second, RNOV Al Naasir, should be handed over at the back end of the year.

Austal commenced construction of the two HSSVs in August 2014, after being awarded the US$124.9million contract five months earlier.

The company says the 38 knot, all-aluminium HSSV are quick, agile and can carry up to 260 troops, plus extra equipment and vehicles.
