1) When Streamco bought the QFX redeemable Pref Shares from HBO last year it was hailed as a brilliant strategic decision by them. They could just wait for QFX to go broke....then scoop up all it's customers, platform and anything else they wanted.
2) The preference shares act as a block to anyone taking over QFX as they the new buyer would need to pay out the original face value of the shares which is $10M...way more than the current MC of QFX.
3)Stan, Presto and Netlix have all since launched in the Aust market. Despite it's strong backing from the likes of Foxtel, Telstra and Seven, Presto appears to be struggling against Stan and Netflix which have both begun well.
4) Presto knows that all the players won't survive.
5) Presto needs more customers or it won't reach profitability. Quickflix has 140k customers.
6) Presto knows that if Quickflix runs out of money...Stan will get all Quickflixes customers....and get even further ahead of Presto.
7) So Presto doesn't want Quickflix to fail.
8) Thats why they are looking to let Quickflix resell their content......to keep it alive and out of the hands of their rival.
9) Quickflix has no money........but it will need money to rework it's platform to resell Presto.
10) The failure of last years CR and the state of the share chart shows that Quickflix will have a really hard time raising that money.....except from one source........the backers of Presto.
11) News that the likes of News Corp/Foxtel/ Seven have funded Quickflix would be a total game changer for the SP.
12) But it's the only way they can avoid it falling to Stan.
13) Quickflix will be at the mercy of Presto regarding the pricing of the deal.......but if Presto want to keep Quickflix alive QFX will need to either A) Turn a profit....B) Keep raising more funds.
14) Presto has an interest in seeing QFX become profitable and can make that happen by giving it a good deal reslling its library.
15) Presto wants Quickflix customers watching and paying for Presto product, not Stan product.
Thats why I think this weeks announcement will prove to have been a game changer!
