I was more referring to the range problem being fixed. The price of batteries and evs is falling significantly but they're not there yet. That is expected sometime between 2021 and 2025.
Yes , the conversion from hydrogen to ammonia and back requires energy and therefore cost but it is the price of that energy that is the key. The whole premise of a hydrogen industry in Australia is based on large amounts of very cheap renewable energy .
Have you read the CSIRO paper on it ?
The network exists utilising existing infrastructure. I read an interview recently ( can't find atm ) with the CEO of one of the Australian gas distribution companies. He said there was already spare capacity in the network and many options for conversion to better utilise existing infrastructure.
