It can be very surprising what wastage there is unless we look for it. Education is a very good start, and an understanding of what gobbles up power the most, whether it be elec of gas, there's savings to be made very easily.   LED's everywhere within the home is a great start, they're a fraction (approx 20%) of what incandescent or halogen draw, and last longer.  If the home has ridiculous halogen downlights everywhere then changing them out for LED is a must, and no need to change light fitting, just lamp. Another simple strategy is breaking habits, one example is boiling kettle and filling it up more than it needs to be, ie if making 2 cups of brew then don't fill it up. The best and simplest thing to do is get a meat thermometer and put it under the hot water from the tap, if it's more than 55 C then turn the water heater down, 50 C will do most homes, as there's no point heating water to then cool it down with cold.
