They want preference on the basis of their identity or interests.
Lock the gate group make all sorts of unsubstantiated activist claims about fracking and oil&gas exploration and development
There is risk with all drill holes
Fracking adds a little more
CSG mostly doesn't need fracking just pumping water and treating it and selling it or disposing of it.
Follow the money
These activist groups are supported by those who stand to gain
Mineral rights belong to the Crown yet farmers and others want the royalties due the Crown
Santos already pays very substantial amounts to landholders with a wellhead on their place
Farmers often make more from their wellhead crop than normal business activity.

Royalties should go to the Crown for the benefit of the general public
Irrational Development bans should be overturned for the benefit of the general public
The general public should benefit not special interests

I'm not fussed much about the crazy blanket bans in socialist paradises like Victoria
Rationality will win out as the supply side deficiency bites
