This statement is basically put out to justify to shareholders why AWB isn't answering their questions ... it's a pointless statement though. Looking for my exit now. Time to get back in even bigger later when Cole gives his determination to the govt, and the govt decide to remove the single desk.
Public Announcements 2006 – 13 Statement from the Board of AWB Limited In marketing Australia’s wheat to the world for more than 65 years, AWB, and its predecessor the Australian Wheat Board, has earned an excellent reputation. That reputation has been founded on a high quality product, produced by Australia’s highly competitive wheat industry, and a professional commercial service. Regretfully, AWB’s reputation has been significantly damaged as a result of the Company’s participation in the United Nations Oil For Food Program and subsequent media coverage. It is understandable that farmers, shareholders and customers have concerns and questions for the Company and we will respond as and when we can, but the Commission of Inquiry has not yet run its course. Under its Terms of Reference, the Commission of Inquiry, which will report on March 31, 2006, is to determine whether there might have been any breach of Australian Commonwealth, State or Territory law by Australian companies which traded with Iraq under the United Nations Oil For Food Program. At that time the Board can and will respond to the evidence and any findings. The Board will ensure that it is compliant with ASX Listing Rules at all times. To respond to allegations or the evidence prior to the completion of the Inquiry would be inappropriate. In the meantime, we seek the support and understanding of our farmers, shareholders and customers as we manage through this difficult period. The Board will take all the necessary actions as may be appropriate to protec AWB, its reputation and its business. The Board is committed to ensuring that AWB continues to serve the needs of its stakeholders. The Company remains totally committed to the interests of our farmers, shareholders and customers. Richard Fuller Company Secretary Tuesday 24th January 2006
