Yes that's right, phishpheet. The first mover advantage rule does apply however and these co's we follow are first movers. In theory, these voip co's should be well and truly established by the time the big and unwieldy ISP's/telco's figure out what is going on. By the time the ISP's get onto it, our little co's "should" be set up and captured a large market share each thus forcing the ISP's to either take over our co's or go it on their own.
What ever way it boils down, first mover advantage does apply and will hold strong for quite some time.
The big telco's are the ones to keep an eye out for, they DO have the pstn market and falling revenue from this segment will see questions being asked and a reactive response will come forth. These co's we follow are in reality either take over targets (ENG already in the process) or they will be pushed out of the market. I do believe the telco's are are not doing anything about the voip segment because they are protecting their pstn cash cow, this will change once our little co's gain popularity and moms and dads, soho and sme start looking for cost cutting measures especially in the current climate. Now more then ever before, people are tightening their spend and I know I am on the hunt to cut cost's anyway I can while maintaining adequate services.
Maybe look for something via Foxtel/telstra on cable or NextG, Seven may come up with something although they do not have any infrastructure to further compete against the big Isp's/telcos, Seven still have to buy bandwidth although Seven can achieve media saturation without a big spend, Foxtel/Telstra have this same advantage. This scenario puts Internode and Symbio/MNF in a box seat as Internode own/lease infrastructure from Symbio and Symbio wholesale bandwidth to the convergent market.
Have you had a look at the new Lcd tv's? built in wireless in a store near you soon. Hook this up to Unified Communications, Foxtell/Telstra/Seven may just have an edge due to mass marketing right in front of our face.....if they move first. Think video conferencing via voip.
Where does that leave us? taken over or pushed out.
